Summary

Unique way to layout the major pillars of finance。 Some people might miss key points in the style of writing or not translate the importance to themselves。

The first part was direct and i like it even though these seven cures for a lean purse were basic and simple, but it was good I wasn't expecting the second part of the book to be stories and then the moral of the story ,i was expecting a direct non fiction style,i didn't like it a lot and the language didn't help either (it was old) The first part was direct and i like it even though these seven cures for a lean purse were basic and simple, but it was good I wasn't expecting the second part of the book to be stories and then the moral of the story ,i was expecting a direct non fiction style,i didn't like it a lot and the language didn't help either (it was old) 。。。more

This book summarised important points that we should make in our life。 We have to remember to be determined with our goals and not have the mindset of an individual that is not free。 Although I do not necessarily believe that that 100% of hard work can led to success, it does play a factor including luck/timing。

Absolute garbage of a book。 The economic principles in the book are extremely dumbed down and repeated dozens of times。 Basically: don't spend more than you earn and invest at least 10% in something that generates passive income。 There。 You don't need to read the book now。As a piece of general fiction it's unbearable to read。 The characters are all hammed up and single-dimensional。 The author has chosen to write all dialogue in faux babylonian-translation which gets old quickly。 Most of the book Absolute garbage of a book。 The economic principles in the book are extremely dumbed down and repeated dozens of times。 Basically: don't spend more than you earn and invest at least 10% in something that generates passive income。 There。 You don't need to read the book now。As a piece of general fiction it's unbearable to read。 The characters are all hammed up and single-dimensional。 The author has chosen to write all dialogue in faux babylonian-translation which gets old quickly。 Most of the book consists of dialogues of people narrating their tales, and so most of the book is written in the same awkward style with old English words mixed up。 For example: “Never mind though our purses be as empty as the falcon’s nest of a year ago。 Let that not detain us。 We are weary of being without gold in the midst of plenty。 We wish to become men of means。 Come, let us go to Arkad and ask how we, also, may acquire incomes for ourselves。” 。。。more

A Good Simple ReminderMost people have heard what the book discusses, in one form or another。 However, it is a good and simple reminder。

Practical guide to managing personal wealth, right from the ancient wisdom of Babylonians。 A book that should have been taught in schools。 It has something for everyone- right from amateur investors to money multiplying moguls。 Only thing that came to my mind after completing it: Why did I not read it before?!

Meh。 I can see how this book would've been eye opening and dramatic when it was published in 1926 (and more so ~4 years later。。。), and I can see how it would've been helpful to people growing up in the 70's and 80's while THIER parents were still riding the financial boom of the 40's, 50's, and 60's and therefore didn't teach their kids anything about how money works。。。But as a millennial? As a graduate educated, straight A, 4。0 GPA wunderkind who is still living off the generosity of her parent Meh。 I can see how this book would've been eye opening and dramatic when it was published in 1926 (and more so ~4 years later。。。), and I can see how it would've been helpful to people growing up in the 70's and 80's while THIER parents were still riding the financial boom of the 40's, 50's, and 60's and therefore didn't teach their kids anything about how money works。。。But as a millennial? As someone who lived through the 2007 bubble burst and came to know the meaning of the words 'market downturn' and 'subprime lending' and 'government bailout' with the same level of competence as my algebra homework (and who got sent to see the principal for making the totally valid comment that the grown ups should have 2007 coming because we all repeatedly learned about the 1920's become the 1930's in both History and English though all 8 years of secondary school)? Consider me unimpressed。And if one more financial fix book tells me to buy a flippin house, I'm gonna cut someone。Home ownership is a distant, unreasonable dream at the moment and telling me what I already know about how it's the key to building long term wealth does NOT help me。Now, the parables in here might help some people in my generation。 Lord knows there's some privileged bitches in the pack, but the people these tips will help don't need them because they already have a secure enough base to have gotten this far without them, and the people who would actually be interested in listening to the advice offered here are largely of insufficient means to act on them。。。 It's just all so very Establishment。。。 It honestly makes me queasy。As a historical piece, it's neat。 I guess。As a financial aide? It's a load of useless prattle。 。。。more

If you give one book to your child on financial success, give them this one。 Quick read that gives the basics on saving, accumulating wealth and paying off debt in a relatable story format。 Set in Babylon you learn about the culture as well。

Good intro read about finances。

Quick little read with decent advice; I'd even wager to call it passive advice, considering the ease of automatic saving and investing。I liked the chapter in the middle imploring that the reader own insurance。 Ah, a leaflet distributed by insurance companies, you say? Really fun and interesting book。 I loved the settings and the stories and the characters in each。 What a great way to give money advice through tales set in ancient Babylon。

Save 10% of your income for retirement。 Don't waste money on flashy things。 Invest in index funds (or target date funds) and don't move your money just because the market fluctuates。That's my modern interpretation of the advice contained in this book。 The book is a quick read and, judging from its longevity, has been helpful to people who are just starting out with investing。 The problem is that it uses a lot of archaic prose to get to these core points, and it pre-dates modern concepts like tax Save 10% of your income for retirement。 Don't waste money on flashy things。 Invest in index funds (or target date funds) and don't move your money just because the market fluctuates。That's my modern interpretation of the advice contained in this book。 The book is a quick read and, judging from its longevity, has been helpful to people who are just starting out with investing。 The problem is that it uses a lot of archaic prose to get to these core points, and it pre-dates modern concepts like tax-deferred investment vehicles。 If you're new to investing and don't have much time to read, you'd be better off reading the r/personalfinance guide。 If you have more time, check out The Millionaire Next Door。 。。。more

Classic wisdom teaches the concepts of finance with nice stories。 I found the language bit difficult to follow and some points repeating themselves again and again but nonetheless the book is a very good read。
